Well-suited for large-scale enterprises with demanding business applications, the RackStation RS3618xs 12-Bay NAS Server from Synology helps simplify data management, optimizes virtualization environments, and rapidly expands storage capacities. This unit has 12 drive bays, each of which natively supports 3.5″ SATA hard drives, as well as 2.5″ SATA hard drives and SSDs. Should users need to expand the overall capacity of their RS3618xs, the optional RX1217/RX1217RP expansion units offer an additional 12 drive bays, and two of these units are supported via integrated expansion ports.
The RackStation RS3618xs is powered by a 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon D-1521 Quad-Core processor, which will allow you to run multiple functions simultaneously. The built-in 8GB of DDR4 ECC RAM will allow quick access to frequently used files and programs and may also be upgraded to a total of 64GB by installing four 16GB modules into the available memory slots. Also featured are two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, which allow it to be connected to your Windows or Mac system. Network connectivity is achieved via the four Gigabit Ethernet ports with failover support, which help to provide redundancy in the case that a LAN connection malfunction occurs on one port. In addition, link aggregation, powered by four LAN ports, helps to increase connection speeds beyond the limits of a single network port or cable. If you’re looking to expand this NAS, there are two PCIe Gen 3.0 x8/x8 slots that support a 10GbE NIC and the M2D18, a dual M.2 SATA SSD adapter card for creating an SSD cache.
The DX1215 12-Bay Expansion Unit from Synology delivers volume expansion and data backup for the following selected Synology DiskStation servers: DS3615xs, DS3612xs, DS3611xs, DS2015xs, and DS2413+. There is also a DSM version requirement of 5.1-5004 or later. The DX1215 provides an additional 12 drive bays that support SATA III 6 Gb/s and SATA II 3 Gb/s 3.5″ hard drives, as well as 2.5″ hard drives and solid-state drives.
When used with Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), RAID management is possible and a RAID volume on your Synology DiskStation can be expanded directly without having to reformat any existing drives. This helps to ensure that your DiskStation continues to operate while its capacity is being expanded.
The DX1215 can also act as a dedicated local backup solution for a Synology DiskStation. When created as a separate volume, the DX1215 helps to provide a backup solution for local drives in case of a system failure. In addition to RAID management and local backups, online volume expansion is also supported.
To connect to the DiskStation, the DX1215 uses a secure and specially designed expansion cable that connects to its Infiniband port. This helps to ensure not only a simple connection but maximum data throughput. The 6 Gb/s connection speed allows the drives in the connected DX1215 to operate as the internal ones of the DiskStation.
Breakthrough network bandwidth bottlenecks with the dual-port E10G17-F2 10GbE SFP+ add-in card. Featuring CPU offloading, RDMA over Ethernet support1, E10G17-F2 satisfies the demands for high-performance computing on your Synology server
The Dual-Port 10 Gigabit SFP+ PCIe 3.0 x8 Ethernet Adapter from Synology provides two 10GbE ports for select Synology FS/XS+ series NAS servers. This adapter is installed inside your server’s PCIe 3.0 x8 slot to provide transfer rates of up to 10 Gb/s for networking connections. Included along with the adapter are low-profile and full-height brackets, which help ensure compatibility with your NAS server. Additionally, the two ports have link-aggregation support.
The RackStation RS217 2-Bay NAS Enclosure from Synology provides two storage bays and two Gigabit Ethernet ports, so you can create a storage pool of shared data with network-connected users. The two SATA-based bays are capable of supporting 2.5″/3.5″ hard drives and 2.5″ solid-state drives. Once drives are installed, you can configure the drives as a RAID 0, 1, JBOD, Hybrid, or Basic array. Furthermore, managing the Synology DiskStation Manager operating system is done with an Armada 385 processor and 512MB of DDR3 memory.
With link aggregation and failover support, the RS217 can deliver data stored on your drives reliably and quickly. For cooling the drives, it comes with three 40mm fans that can be set in either cool or quiet modes. There are also one USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, and one eSATA port for connecting external devices to this enclosure.
