Built to support on-the-fly volume expansion and local backups, the DX517 5-Bay Expansion Enclosure from Synology adds an additional five 3.5″/2.5″ SATA drive bays to their DS1819+, DS1817+, DS1817, DS1618+, DS1517+, DS1517, DS918+, DS718+, DS218+, and NVR1218. Its drive bays are hot-swappable and screwless, and included is an AC power cord, an accessory pack, and an eSATA expansion cable. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

Synology RX418 4-Bay Expansion Unit
The RX418 4-Bay Expansion Unit from Synology is designed to provide storage expansion for their RS818+ RS818RP+, RS815+, RS815RP+, RS816, and RS815 NAS arrays. It can also be used as a dedicated local backup destination for Synology 1 RU RackStation arrays for comprehensive data protection.
The four drive bays of the RX418 natively support 3.5″ and 2.5″ SATA hard drives and SSDs. The drives are hot-swappable and there is also RAID management through Disk Station Manager. The RX418 is equipped with an eSATA port, which allows for connectivity with your host NAS, and operates using a 100W power supply that runs using 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz. Included is an accessory pack, an AC power cord, and an eSATA cable.

The Synology RX1217 12-Bay Storage Expansion Unit sports 12 hot-swappable drive bays so you can expand your Synology RackStation’s storage capacity. The RX1217 connects to your Synology RackStation via an included Infiniband cable, which helps ensure maximum data throughputs. For expansion, each of the bays is capable of holding a single 2.5″ hard drive, 3.5″ hard drive, or 2.5″ SSD. Other notable features include three 80mm fans that cool your drives and the RX1217. Moreover, a 500W power supply is on board to power the unit and drive.
Volume Expansion & Backup
When drive capacity is running low on a Synology RackStation, the RX1217 offers an easy way to immediately expand storage by providing 12 additional drive slots. The RAID volume on the RackStation can be expanded directly without having to reformat the existing hard drives, ensuring service continuity during the expansion process. When created as a separate volume, the RX1217 also serves as an additional local backup destination for Synology RackStations.Reliable Design
