When combined with another RackStation RC18015xs+ and at least one RXD1215sas 12-Bay Expansion Unit, the RackStation RC18015xs+ NAS Server from Synology is a storage solution that features a high-availability design, snapshot technology, and massive scalability of up to 180 drives. By utilizing two RC18015xs+ units, one will act as an active server, while the other acts as a passive server. With this active/passive structure, services are automatically switched over to the passive server if the active server unexpectedly goes offline.

The RC18015xs+ runs using the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) OS, which is a browser-based operating system that helps to simplify managing your Synology NAS. Its CPU is a 3.3 GHz Intel Xeon E3-1230 v2 Quad-Core processor and its 8GB (2 x 4GB) of ECC RAM, which is upgradeable to 32GB (4 x 8GB), helps to ensure enterprise-level data accuracy and speed for mission-critical tasks. Network connectivity is achieved using 4 x RJ-45 1GbE LAN ports with Link Aggregation / Failover support. When using dual 10GbE connections bonded with Link Aggregation, the RC18015xs+ delivers a throughput of over 2,270 MB/s and 355,400 IOPS. Supported RAID types include Basic, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10.

The RackStation RC18015xs+ operates using dual redundant 150W power supplies at 100-240 VAC and 50/60 Hz (single-phase). It includes an accessory pack and 2 x AC power cords. This unit is protected by a limited 5-year warranty.

High-Availability Cluster Design

By combining two computing servers and multiple storage units into a single high-availability cluster, the RC18015xs+ and RXD1215sas deliver high reliability and data availability. With the active/passive structure, services are automatically switched over to one server if the other unexpectedly goes offline, helping your business avoid costly downtime

Massive Scalability up to 180 Drives

Up to fifteen RXD1215sas units can be connected to the dual RC18015xs+ computing nodes, accommodating massive scalability of up to 180 drives and maximum raw storage beyond 1PB. The shared storage architecture eliminates the need for data replication over the network, in addition to drastically reducing deployment costs

Fast Performance and Throughput

The RC18015xs+ delivers the performance of over 2,270 MB/s throughput and 355,400 IOPS when using dual 10GbE connections bonded with Link Aggregation. Equipped with 8GB ECC RAM (upgradeable up to 32GB), the RC18015xs+ helps ensure enterprise-level data accuracy and speed for your mission-critical tasks

Hardware Redundancy

In addition to the active/passive architecture, the RC18015xs+ and RXD1215sas are equipped with redundant hardware components, such as power supply units, SAS modules, SAS connection cables, system fans, LAN ports, and even the Heartbeat connection. In the event of component failure, the system continues operating normally while replacement parts are obtained and installed

In addition to the default four Gigabit Ethernet ports (plus one dedicated port for the Heartbeat), the RC18015xs+ comes with one PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot (running at x8 mode), accommodating installation of one 10GbE network interface card (NIC) for maximized bandwidth

With the support of Windows AD, LDAP, and Domain Trust, the RC18015xs+ helps enable seamless account integration. The User Home feature can automatically create a “home” folder for every user account to minimize the administrator’s effort in repeatedly creating “home” folders for all accounts. Windows ACL support on the RC18015xs+ allows IT, administrators, to fine-tune access controls and set up privileges to files and folders on the RC18015xs+ through the familiar Windows user interface. With compatibility for major protocols, the RC18015xs+ can help eliminate server configuration overhead and enhance IT administrators’ efficiency

Seamless Storage Solution for Virtualization Environments

The RC18015xs+ provides seamless storage solutions for virtualization environments, including VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft Hyper-V. With VMware vSphere 5 & VAAI integration, the RC18015xs+ helps offload specific storage operations and optimizes computation power in VMware environments. Windows ODX support speeds up data manipulation as the data transfer is offloaded. iSCSI also lets SMB users consolidate storage into data center storage arrays while providing hosts with the illusion of locally-attached disks

Unified Storage System

The RC18015xs+ enables businesses to cost-effectively manage multi-protocol data by integrating file-level (NAS) and block-level (SAN) storage into one unified storage system. Files can be shared across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms seamlessly with comprehensive network protocol support (CIFS/SMB, AFP, and NFS). The RC18015xs+ provides a cost-effective iSCSI solution, allowing large-scale businesses to consolidate storage into data center storage arrays. With thin provisioning available for file-level iSCSI LUN, you can maximize storage utilization by oversubscribing provisions and grow storage space as needed

Synology CMS (Central Management System)

With the mobile app DS cloud, any change made to a file is automatically synced to your smartphones and tablets. For distributed enterprises, Synology’s 2-way sync between different DiskStations ensures employees at different locations share the same information in real-time. IT administrators can handpick individual folders that they want to sync to different devices, manually or automatically based on file format and size. Folders synced by Cloud Station can be encrypted on DSM – no one will be able to access its content without your private key
